Driving & Parking:
Jackson Street Studios offers several parking spaces at 6107 Polk Street–one block past Jackson Street if you’re traveling down 61st Street.
Turn left at the hairdresser, pass Perkaroma Coffee Company (a big warehouse) and it’s the next driveway on the left. There is a small garage and a large garage. Park as closely/safely as you can to the other cars and then walk back past the coffee company and hairdresser, turn right one block, turn left onto Jackson and it’s the first door on your right.
If the parking is full here, you can probably find a spot on this street–feel free to park on top the yellow lines by the elementary school at the end of the block–it’s legal to park there in the evenings.
If no luck there, circle around the block one more time, but this time go past Polk to Van Buren (unfortunately, it’s not marked. But there’s a faded sign that says “Steppin’ Up Shoes” at the corner. Turn Left, go to the end of the block. Turn Left again and immediately on your left is a Parking Garage–It’s 25 cents for 30 minutes.
Park “nose in” and note the number of your spot. Find one of the little payment machines and punch in your parking spot number and then insert your money. Keep the receipt, you don’t have to put it in the window of your car or anything.) $2.00 should be plenty–$1.00-$1.50 if you’re attending a shorter event.
Public Transportation:
Hudson County
There are NJ Transit buses running up and down Kennedy Blvd. (154, 188, 88) and Bergenline Avenue (22, 84, 89, 156, 159, 181).
If you’re on Kennedy Blvd, get off at 61st–there’s a Walgreens on one side and a small Medical Center on the other. Walk 4 blocks east down 61st street (the Walgreens side of the street). You’ll pass Washington, Jefferson, Adams and then hit Jackson. Turn Left and the studio is the first door on the right side of the street.
If you’re on Bergenline Ave., get off at 61st Street–there’s a Bank of America on one side and a Taco Bell on the other. Walk up 61st Street (toward the Taco Bell). You’ll pass Van Buren (unmarked here, but there’s a dance studio on the corner), Madison, Polk and the next street is Jackson. Turn Right at Jackson and the studio is your first door on the right.
From Manhattan:
If you come to the Collage Party from NYC on a Friday evening, there’s an Express Bus (#159) from 4:30-7:00pm out of Gate #200 in Port Authority. You must have a ticket to board the bus (a new rule) which you can buy from a vending machine–there’s one nearby the gate. The ride is about 20 minutes long and the first stop is just a couple of blocks from the studio. Lots of people usually get out here. Now is the time to start paying attention because you’re next.
Get off at 61st street–the second stop on the Express Bus. As soon as the bus rounds the corner off of 60th onto Bergenline, press the stop button. The driver will stop in front of a Bank of America and across the street from a Taco Bell. When you get off the bus, cross the street (toward the Taco Bell) and walk up a few blocks (Van Buren, Madison, Polk and then Jackson). Turn Right and it’s the first door on the right.
Light Rail from Hoboken, Bayonne, or Jersey City:
If you take the Path to Hoboken, or are just coming from that direction, taking the Light Rail is also easy. Take one going toward North Bergen/Secaucus to the 48th Street Station–it’s quite a fast trip.
From there, you can either walk the 12 blocks (which is what I usually do, but I’m a walker by nature) or take any “jitney” a small, dirty white bus that stops along Bergenline Ave. There are lots of them, and it doesn’t really matter what it’s destination is, you won’t be on it that long.
It should cost $1.25 and you pay when you get off. Mostly the drivers (and the passengers) speak only Spanish or just some English, but it’s all okay, you’re not going very far.
Once you get past 60th Street (you’ll know that when you see the big, green West New York Florist on one side, a giant clock, a Capitol One Bank and Dunkin Donuts on the other), yell out “Next Stop” in a big voice (don’t be shy) and then he’ll stop in front of the Bank of America and across from the Taco Bell. When you get off the bus, cross the street (toward the Taco Bell) and walk up 61st street a few blocks until you see Jackson Street. Turn Right and it’s the first door on the right.
Driving:
If you’re driving from Manhattan, call the Studio 201-563-4317 and we’ll give you better/faster directions than MapQuest does. If you’re driving from Secaucus, the Turnpike, etc., you can either come up Kennedy and turn right onto 61st. Go one block past Jackson to Polk street for parking. Feel free to call the Studio as well to discuss: 201-563-4317.
